ESGR in the News

KALISPELL, Mont. – Carla Genovese, Flathead Valley Community College Nursing Program Director was recognized by the Department of Defense with an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award. The award nomination came from U.S. Army Reserve Lt. Col. Glenna Bergland in recognition of Genovese’s extraordinary support of Cook’s military obligations.

The Patriot Award was developed by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense, to publicly recognize civilian employers who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their civilian employees serving in the Guard or Reserve. Employer support is key to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve.

The nomination reads, “Carla Genovese and my coworkers are true patriots. I commanded a medical support unit for two years, which was highly time-consuming. I had to be gone more than usual and often took calls during work hours. Carla always supported my service and understood the importance of my mi9ilitary work. As I head out for a nine-month deployment, Carla and my coworkers will carry my load while gone. They are 100% supportive. Carla and the team go so far as to support my family while I am gone. Lastly, Carla promoted me even though I was leaving for nine months.”

Congratulations Carla Genovese for being a supportive civilian employer of our country’s service members. You provide a valuable service to our country by hiring Guard and Reserve members.

Genovese also signed a Statement of Support certificate to then be displayed at her workplace. The Statement of Support program is the cornerstone of ESGR’s effort to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The intent of the program is to increase employer support by encouraging employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military.

ESGR has worked for over 50 years to foster a culture in which all employer support and value the employment and military service of members of the United States National Guard and Reserve. For more information about ESGR outreach programs visit
