ESGR in the News

CARSLISLE, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, announced that Pennsylvania ESGR Military Outreach Coordinator Wes Craig recently briefed 80 international military officers attending the International Fellows Program at U.S. Army War College.

According to the War College’s web site: “Each year approximately eighty senior military officers from around the world are extended an invitation from the Chief of Staff of the United States Army to attend the U.S. Army War College.” Visiting officers attend a year-long course that the web site describes curricula as “Studying the role of land power, as part of a unified, joint, or combined force, in support of the U.S. national military strategy… (The) Curriculum focuses on national security and strategy issues, concepts, and processes; military strategy, plans and operations; theater level warfare and campaign planning; and command, leadership, and management.”

Craig, a graduate of the War College and former Pennsylvania National Guard Adjutant General addressed the visiting officers. He explained how ESGR, as an office within the Department of Defense plays an integral part of a ‘support umbrella’ for members of the National Guard and Reserve forces and is a resource for their employers, explaining the organizational mission and objectives. Craig also briefed attendees on the protections and obligations servicemembers’ have under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA).

Craig indicated that the audience was very attentive and extremely inquisitive about both the protections and obligations servicemembers' have under the USERRA law.

ESGR, a Department of Defense office, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective, and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
