LANSING, Mich - Congratulations to our two Michigan companies who were selected to receive the 2023 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. These two outstanding employers were selected from among 1863 nominations, nation-wide, and are two of only 15 employers being recognized in 2023.

E.L. Hollingsworth & Co. was nominated by LT Derek Byrd, Michigan Army National Guard. The company was recognized for their exceptional support of 2nd Lt. Derek Byrd and other Guard and Reserve employees, including: the continuation of full pay and benefits during all periods of military service, actively recruiting Guard/Reserve members as employees, and placing a high value on recruiting and retaining Reserve Component members as employees.

Consumers Energy was nominated by Master Sgt. Derek Nelson, Michigan Air National Guard. This employer was recognized for their "Utility Military Assistance Program" which trains veterans and Reserve Components members as gas utility sector workers, followed by employment with Consumers Energy. They also have an exceptional military pay differential program that provides full pay during the first 30 days of mobilization, followed by a pay differential for the duration of military service. The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency has recognized Consumers Energy as a Gold Level Veterans-Friendly Employer.

The Michigan Committee for ESGR is very proud to have both of these employers recognized for their outstanding support of our Service Members. They will receive their Freedom Awards in a formal ceremony in the Pentagon Aug. 30.
