ESGR in the News

ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Virginia Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office announces that representatives from their administrative offices in the city of Elkins, each signed Statements of Support in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the West Virginia Guard and Reserve. These offices were City Clerk, Mayor, Treasurer, Public Water System, Public Wastewater System, Police Department, Fire Department and Operations Department.  The city of Elkins affirms strong and patriotic support of employees serving in the nation’s reserve forces during ESGR’s 50th Anniversary year.

John Miller, Chair Emeritus and Assistant Ombudsman Director for ESGR, as well as an Elkins native, met with the representatives for the signature signing. Miller stated, “Supportive business leaders and supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Each of these administrative representatives join many West Virginia employers expressing their support of service members in the Guard and Reserve.  Specific points of a Statement of Support pledges that an organization adopts the following beliefs:

  • We fully recognize, honor, and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
  • We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills Service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to employ Guardsmen, Reservists, transitioning Service members and Veterans.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
