  • Karen Horn from Blue Diamond Growers receives Patriot Award

SACRAMENTO – Supervisor Karen Horn from Blue Diamond Growers was presented with a Patriot Award at the Boss Lift in Stockton on Aug. 22 by Rob Peterson, and Dan Nelan, volunteers for the California Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in recognition of extraordinary support of their employee.

Horn was nominated for being highly supportive of the Staff Sgt. Brandon McDaniel, U.S. Air Force Reserve.

“Since I began working at this company, there has never been any struggle for me to justify my military time with the company. At the time that I was promoted, this company stated that my military training and education is invaluable experience to take on the role of Site Training Coordinator. My supervisor, Karen Horn, has been supportive and understanding of my military leave.”

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.

“Supportive employers, like Karen Horn, are vital to the success of our mission and the defense of this nation,” said James Combs, California ESGR state chair. “Our Guard and Reserve members could not perform their military duty without knowing their civilian employer supports them 100 percent.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
