LINCOLN, Neb. – The family of the late Sanford “Sam” Nelson was presented the “Twice the Citizen” award by Bruce Wood, Nebraska Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve volunteer and Employer Outreach Director in recognition of the extraordinary service of their father to the Nebraska ESGR committee.

Sam, a member of the committee for more than 25 years, remained active even after health issues forced him to curtail many of his outreach efforts. However, he continued to contact employers and Service member’s alike offering support and encouragement until the day of his passing.

“The Twice the Citizen award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize the families of individuals who provided outstanding service to ESGR and to thank them for sharing their loved one,” said Wood. “Dedicated volunteers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
