  • USDA supervisor honored by Department of Defense with Patriot Award

CHEYENNE Wyo. – Wyoming Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve State Chair Ted Durante, presented a Spouse Patriot Award to Bruce Shambaugh, a USDA supervisor March 16.

Shambaugh was nominated by Mindy Schaad. Mindy is the Spouse of Lt. Col. Jeremy Schaad, Commander 187th Airlift Squadron, and wrote in her nomination:

"Bruce Shambaugh has shown support above and beyond what I have experienced with previous employers while my husband was deployed. Bruce remained flexible in allowing me to adjust my schedule to meet the needs of our three children with their school, extra-curricular activities, doctors’ appointments and all the unexpected events which arose during the five months my husband was deployed. Bruce always took the time to communicate and ensure my schedule was working well during this deployment for both me personally and the company. Bruce's support of the Air National Guard and their families brings great credit upon himself, and the USDA. He is a true patriot."

Spouse Patriot Award:

Our Nation has relied heavily on Guard and Reserve service members since entering continuous operations more than a decade ago. Employer support enhances retention rates in the Armed Forces and in the end, strengthens our national security. To recognize employers who support their Guard and Reserve employees, ESGR grants a series of Department of Defense awards:

The spouse of a Reservist or Guardsman may nominate their boss for the Patriot Award! Though not required by law, many employers voluntarily assist Guard and Reserve spouses who often share the challenges of military service. Childcare, managing the household, and work schedules often have to be adjusted when one spouse leaves to serve our country.

Thank you Bruce Shambaugh for your dedication to our nations Guard and Reserves.
