Boston, MA. January 21, 2012. Staples is the world's largest office products company, committed to making it easy for customers around the globe to buy a wide range of office products, including supplies, technology, furniture, and business services. With $23 billion in sales, Staples serves businesses of all sizes and consumers in 27 countries throughout North and South America and in the world. Today, Eastern Area Chair John Pelose traveled to the Park Drive Store located here in Historic Boston, MA. He went there to assist Army Reserve Specialist and Staples’ Employee Edgar Sanchez, to present an ESGR Patriot Award to his General Manager Robert “Bob” Thurston. Specialist Sanchez was very appreciative in receiving support from his general manager. This support includes Mr. Thurston’s readiness and willingness to adjust Specialist Sanchez work schedule to accommodate a number of dates needed for his military training. Mr. Thurston was truly surprised to receive this prestigious award for just doing what makes sense for employers to support their guard and reserve employees.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between service members and employers. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce. The MA ESGR has more than 45 volunteers dedicated to helping every "Citizen Warrior." On hand representing MA ESGR was Volunteer and Eastern Area Chair John Pelose.
